Who we are
Lucy is the principle designer and director of Lucy June Garden Design.
She has always loved being outside, from a young age she would spend time helping at her grandad’s allotment, lifting up logs to see the insects and weeding.
She studied fine art photography at the University of Brighton, her work often centred around place, landscapes and emotion. Following her studies, she embarked on a successful career in advertising, initially producing photographic shoots but later bringing all sorts of ideas to life.
As time went on, her curiosity of the natural world and her plant knowledge grew.
After volunteering as a gardener at St Mary’s church in Walthamstow in 2020, she decided to retrain in garden design and horticulture. She studied garden design at Capel Manor and then went on to study the science side of things with the RHS.
Her learnings encompassed how plants function, nutrition, health, adaptations and various planting styles as well as an understanding of the horticultural industry and the vital role plants play in enhancing biodiversity. She has particular interest in ecosystem services and believes that the garden should be valued like another room in our home.
She lives in Walthamstow and predominantly designs urban gardens in London, helping clients to re-imagine what their outdoor space could be.
